As an innovative and forward-looking college, we intend to offer a “Digital Innovation Studio” for students and staff to engage with new VR and digital technologies and conduct “digital outreach” activities.
The studio will be based on the lower-ground floor and will be equipped as a multi-use room. It will offer desks and computers for routine use by students and Fellows, and be able to be configured for specific ‘digital innovation activities’. Such activities may include:
- Immersive 360 mixed reality projection mapping
- Motion capture and 3D scanning for VR
- Recording audio and video podcasts
- Demonstrating and experimenting with VR/AR/MR hardware
- Content creation using tools such as Unreal Engine, Unit, Maya and 3D studio

Immersive 360-degree projection mapping space
Using 360-degree projection and tracking cameras, the studio will be able to be used as a mixed reality experimentation space for Reuben students and researchers to experiment with and develop new approaches immersive technologies. For example, this could be used as a way of engaging with ‘cellular life’ or interactive activities linked to museum events.
Motion tracking and 3D scanning
The room will also be equipped as a motion capture studio with greenscreen and a motion tracking suit and headset to enable development and testing of VR and AR experiences for teaching, public engagement and student projects. A 3D scanner will enable the creation of 3D representation of objects and could be used with the museums and libraries for experimenting with immersive interactive activities for public engagement and education.
The studio space will also be configurable as a podcasting studio for producing audio and video podcasts, which will allow content creation opportunities for students and Fellows, and help us connect and engage with wider audiences.
